I lost my sister three years ago in June.
Memories
Her laugh
Her smile
Her hatred of photographs
I miss my sister
Her phone calls
Her stories
Her exaggerations best of all
I miss her so much
Her clothes
Her boots
Her love of my son and niece
I miss her more each day
Her spirit
Her faith
Her support of the rest of us
I know I'll see her again

We have to love in the here and now. Then we love through our spirits. God bless and keep your heart.
ReplyDeleteThanks. It gets easier with time, but then again it doesn't.
DeleteI lost my dad almost 9 years ago, and your poem reminded me so much of how I feel about losing him. We have to treasure those memories and let our loved ones live in our hearts!
ReplyDeleteAgree. She is in my heart and my little guy speaks of her so often and that helps too!
DeleteI can feel your pain. Life carries on, but unfortunately we carry the pain of missing our loved along with it on our journeys. God bless you and I hope you find comfortin the chereished memories and love between you and your sister.
ReplyDeleteMemories. I wish I could bottle them up!
DeleteI always think it would be nice to collect them in little snow domes and jump inside whenever we wanted to revisit them.
DeleteMe too! Pictures just don't cut it! :)
DeleteThere is no one like a sister and I hear the loss you feel in your poem. I, also hear the power of faith to help you endure. You have memories treasured in your heart and today you bravely shared them with us.
ReplyDeleteIt was hard. I'd been thinking about expressing it somehow and decided today was the day.
DeleteMy heart feels your pain.
ReplyDelete:(
DeleteSo hard to lose someone you love. I lost my dad about 15 years ago. I don't think it ever gets easier, I think I've just gotten used to the ache. You chose such great details to capture her essence. And I love your ending.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't get easier. You are so right. People say it does, but I think life just goes on but it hurts everyday and you wish you could bring them back and they could be here for all of those moments.
DeleteA little piece of our heart goes with them, and a little piece of our loved ones always stays in our heart. Peace.

Thank you! She was amazing and I try to be a little crafty like her to keep her here with me. I know she would love the disasters I create!
DeleteYou captured the pain you feel at losing a dear sister. Even though I lost my parents many years ago, I can't imagine losing one of my sisters. They are such a support to me. I like the structure you used with the memories of her in 3 lines and your feelings in the 4th line.
ReplyDeleteMy mom and dad have lost my sister and brother. I can't imagine that pain. Siblings are special people and I cling to my little sister and hold on tight for the rest of this ride we call life. (whether she likes it or not! Ha!)
