I am a BIG fan of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are. (the book, so NOT the movie!)
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the book and that my friends is worthy of celebration!
My book buddy teacher, Mr. C. was all in! He happens to be quite the talented artist and my class loves him! We decided to do an almost life size modeled drawing of one of the wild things. The 4th graders helped my 1st graders draw with oil pastel and then paint with watercolor.
We did not stop there though! One of our amazing moms had decorations and made delicious and adorable cupcakes, too!
And while we were at it, we went ahead and did a photo shoot, too! Of course, Mr. C. obviously made Max! Really wishing I had that talent! I work with some pretty amazing people! Cute, right?
The clock is ticking before the end of 2013, but if you have a minute or two to spare, celebrate this classic with your child or students. 50 years of children reading this book (all over the world!) is pretty amazing!
Happy reading!
